Apple Picking

Saturday we had a pretty fun youth event... we went apple picking! Apparently Huffstetler's Orchard donated several acres of apples, if the Food Bank could get volunteers to come pick them. We decided that apples was way better then bagging hot dogs, so we gladly volunteered! We took a pretty small crew out there, but we had a lot of fun. Charlie, Ruth, and I spent most of the time (good-naturedly) bickering, while Josh spent most of the time sitting in a chair trying not to lose his lunch (he failed). We even had little Clara along with us- apparently she has an infatuation with apples and Betsy couldn't resist bringing her! She wandered around the whole time saying "apple, apple," throwing dust in her hair, taking apples out of the boxes, and generally entertaining the rest of us! We stayed for 2 hours or so, which didn't seem like that long. But the cool part was that they told us that we picked more then any other group had. So that made us pretty proud. The other cool part about it was that Greg came, and I think it's so amazing, with all of his physical problems, he was right there with us, picking apples and helping out other people in need. What an awesome testimony he is! He was pretty tired by the end, though... but we all were.

We headed back to the church, where Josh headed home (he was pretty sick) leaving Charlie, James, and I to fix dinner and entertain the youths! :) We had a good time... we played giant badmiton (until the net that took 46 hours to put up broke) and baseball, and even organized a game of boys vs. girls kickball. The girls got their rears, well, kicked... 18 to 1, but it was a good time anyway! Finally we sent the kids home and I headed home to my sick husband, who spent all of the evening laying on the couch moaning... but he feels much better now. Here's hoping I don't catch it, because I hate yakking, and it's a lot of work for me to be sick! :) Posted by Picasa
